Week02 - Minecraft Level

Progress

I started by exporting the standard third person model from Unreal to use as reference when creating the cube and cards. After UVing the cube I created a quick template in Photoshop.

I then applied the template to a new material in Maya and used it as a guide to align the UVs. Afterwards I went back into Photoshop and created the textures below. These textures are all 90x90 pixels. I chose this size because a standard Minecraft block is 30x30x30 pixels.

I used the same template when creating the card textures. The cards are simple 2D planes with a masked texture applied.

I imported all of the textures into Unreal and created a master material.

I created parameters for each material node I wanted to alter, which gave the material instances more control / adjustability.

After creating individual material instances for each block texture, I went to town building the island and cherry blossom tree.

Finally I decided to change the lighting of the level to night and added emission to some of the cherry leaves, as well as all of the plant cards.

And voila, my simple cherry blossom Minecraft level created in Unreal, using Maya and Photoshop.
